Samantha Chiu (@samanthachiu) didn’t grow up in a family of bakers. But when she began experimenting four years ago, she knew she’d found more than a hobby. “Baking has been, and will always be, a creative outlet for me,” says the 27-year-old software marketer who lives in Toronto, Canada.
Baking cookies and cakes in animal shapes allows Samantha’s imagination to roam — while keeping her ideas manageable. “Constraints breed creativity,” she says of her cute, minimalist designs. “I find it easier to challenge myself by setting boundaries.”
Ultimately, Samantha shares her creations with a simple goal in mind. “I just want to brighten someone’s day. If I’m able to make one person smile, then I feel like I’ve accomplished something.”
Watch Samantha design and bake Halloween-themed creatures today on our story.

Hello, world! It’s time for a special #Halloween edition of #WeeklyFluff starring Maymo (@maymothedog). “Maymo lives in Massachusetts in a neighborhood next to a small pond and a trail where he enjoys eating sticks and the occasional roll in putrid things he finds in the grass,” explains Maymo’s human, Jeremy. “Maymo enjoys planning the capture and eventual imprisonment of our mail carrier, as well as lobbying the government to put an end to bath time. He also enjoys smelling, staring at and eating food.”
This beagle also loves costumes and Halloween. “Because of his proficiency in doggie disguises, Maymo is working on a tell-all memoir documenting his methods of canine costumery,” says Jeremy. Watch today’s story and our IGTV channel to see more costumed looks from Maymo.

She’s a tax advisor by day, but in her free time, Rupinder Ashan (@makeup_by_rups) uses body paint and makeup to transform into ghouls, demigods and figures from ancient myth. Spending up to seven hours on her simplest looks — and twice that on more intricate efforts — Rupinder immerses herself so fully in the work that she calls it “the ultimate form of meditation.”
The self-taught makeup artist also discovered an unexpected benefit to her art: a deeper appreciation of her own culture. “It wasn’t until I started body painting that I rediscovered my roots. I really wasn’t interested in my Indian heritage. Now, it’s a big part of the conversation I want to put across. The deeper I dig, the more I find, and the richer it becomes.”
Watch Rupinder create a Halloween look today on story and new to our IGTV channel.

Photo by @birduyen “My work has a very warm and calm atmosphere,” says Theresa “T” Le (@birduyen), “like when the sunlight is on your face in the morning, while the birds are softly chirping. I say that because I wouldn’t describe my art as striking or dynamic. Rather, I aim to create a peaceful and soft feeling.” A recent university graduate with a degree in statistics, T is taking part in #Inktober, an annual drawing challenge where artists all over the world create one ink each day of October. “It’s so inspiring to see all the different techniques and art styles that are showcased,” she explains. “I really wanted to be a part of that community, so I’m trying my best to be consistent, but also experimenting and having fun with my art during this spooky time of the year.” Check out today’s story to see more of T’s spooky and soothing art.

Weekend Hashtag Project: #WHPdressup
As many places around the world prepare to celebrate Halloween, it’s time to tap into your imagination, and bring your dreams to life with videos and images, like this photo from Melissa Semião (@theewhitewitch). Here are some tips to get started:
Dream up a new character. You can transform into a fantastical creature, a beautiful apparition or even an optical illusion — there are no limits.
Rely on props. A sheet can transform your little brother into a ghost, a broom can make your best friend a witch, or a classic toothy jack-o’-lantern can set a spooky mood.
Create a scene. Think about locations like a foggy forest or a dark room with dramatic lighting to add the desired atmosphere to your submission.

PROJECT RULES: Please add the #WHPdressup hashtag only to photos and videos shared over this weekend and only submit your own visuals to the project. By adding the #WHPdressup hashtag, you consent to and grant Instagram all rights to repost your photo or video. If you include music in your video submissions, please only use music to which you own the rights. Any tagged photo or video shared over the weekend with the #WHPdressup hashtag is eligible for the project and, if selected, to be featured next week.

Hello, world! Meet Luna (@luna_thelurcher), a two-year-old pup that loves chasing birds and squirrels at home in Kent, England. “A couple of things about Luna,” starts Luna’s human Chris, “She’s really empathetic. If a person is crying, Luna will try to lick them better! It usually works. We think she could be a good therapy dog. Also, she talks a lot. If we’ve been out too long, she will tell us off with her best impression of Chewbacca.”
